Experience
Henk Holtslag has 25 years of experience as development worker in 16 countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa. He is a key person in the development, dissemination and promotion of SMART Techs as Rope pump, manual well drilling, irrigation, water filters. Via hands on training, Henk transfers knowledge on the production, use and marketing of SMART Techs to NGOs, Institutes and the local Private sector. On the other hand Henk is a regular guest and guest speaker at international conferences and forums about water and sanitation and he has a huge network in the sector.
Professional background
Henk has a technical background as ships engineer, worked several years in Africa and 11 years in Nicaragua where he was active in development and dissemination of 8 Rope pump models including motor, animal and wind driven options. He is the initiator and main author of the Publication Smart Water Solutions, and presented Smart techs on the CSD13, World Water Forum, WASH, WEDC and other water forums. Henk is also the promoter of the 300 in 6 initiative. In 2008 Henk received a royal decoration from the Dutch Minister of Development Affairs for his enormous efforts with regard to advocacy, promotion and development of low-cost WASH solutions.
