Workshop - Organization self-assessment

Target audience

Staff and managers wishing to assess their own organization as a starting point for improving it.

Summary

Five-day workshop during which local managers, staff and sometimes also other stakeholders (Board, volunteers, representatives of authorities, etc.) are facilitated to assess the organization, focusing on the following issues:

  • Results achieved up to date and main current problems
  • Mission, vision and core-values
  • Governance and leadership
  • Legal status
  • Beneficiaries and core-activities
  • Place in society, public relations and accountability
  • Staff and volunteers
  • Information systems
  • Income
  • Financial management
  • Logistics

Methods used are: role plays, interviews, financial audit, focus group discussions, participative exercises such as card plays and ranking, and benchmarking (based on the EFQM model). The participants use the outcome to: (a) understand their current organization, (b) envisage a mutually appreciated future for the organization, and (c) produce an organization improvement plan.
