Target audience

  1. Donors/NGO's who wish to capacitate their implementing local partners.
  2. Consultancy companies hired to capacitate local organizations.

Summary

The manual describes how to facilitate an organization to develop, expand and improve itself and become an independent well functioning and learning organization.
The process consists of:

  1. Pre-selection. To get a first idea of the organization's potential.
  2. Intake. (a) Invitation, (b) Desk review of the request, (c) E-mail interviews with stakeholders. Subjects: finance, governance, legal status, track record, clients satisfaction, concepts, technologies, methodologies.
  3. Training of managers to build up their managerial and leadership skills and assess their potential.
  4. Facilitate an organization self-assessment through exercises, discussions, investigations and reviews with stakeholders.

    Activities:
    a. Determine Vision and Mission.
    b. Investigate target groups.
    c. Re-assess Vision and Mission.
    d. Analyze Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT).
    e. Assess: governance & leadership, staff & volunteers, members, finance, logistics, projects, external relations, accountability, output, impact.

  5. Facilitate organization development planning: strategy, improvement activities, time schedule, budget.
  6. Facilitate organization development: training and coaching of development following the planning, and monitoring and evaluation of the development versus the planning.
