Wells & boreholes

Connect International, together with other NGO's, has developed low-cost borehole drilling and well digging technologies. You can download our manuals that describe the technologies. We recommend that if your organization is interested in these technologies you send one or more persons to follow a training course for low-cost drilling and digging at SHIPO, our partner organization in Tanzania (SHIPO). SHIPO can also assist your organization to:

  1. assess which technologies are most suitable for your area,
  2. find and capacitate people to form small hand drilling and digging companies,
  3. capacitate Micro Finance Institutes and Savings Associations to develop credit mechanisms for people who want to start a hand drilling and digging company and provide credit to beneficiaries who want to purchase a groundwater point from such a company.

REMEMBER: hand drilling and hand digging are simple technologies but their proper introduction in an area is far from easy (SIMPLE BUT NOT EASY)! It requires professional training and guidance during a profound period of time and dedication of the drillers. But if these techniques are feasible in your area properly capacitated drilling teams will be able to produce boreholes down to 40 meters deep and dug wells down to more than 20 meters, including all lining, platform, drainage pit and a Rope pump mounted on top for less than 500 Euro per water point!
